Alternative Energy

In a universe of available, endless, and clean energy it doesn't make sense to allow a few nasty people to control and pollute our earth. It's obvious that there is no good future in servicing the wants of Big Oil, or the Arms and Nuclear industries. I now suggest alternative energies and drives whenever possible.

Straight Vegetable Oils as a replacement for Diesel Fuel

Rudolph Diesel designed his engine to run on peanut oil over 100 years ago, and all diesels run fantastically on vegetable oils today. I'm not talking about biodiesel, but plain old vegetable oils. Our own VW Jetta turbo diesel has run on waste fryer oil for two years and over 40,000 km. It runs better on 'veggie' oil than on diesel.... even in the coldest weather. I wrote a handbook to accompany local mechanic Perry Everett's workshops on converting diesels and it's available as a free download. This is a basic outline on how to convert diesels, whether they are used in boats, cars and trucks, or gensets. Some have already succesfully converted their diesels using this book. Veggie oils work great in oil heating furnaces when mixed 50/50 with furnace oil, too. There are some companies in the U.S. and Canada who sell excellent kits for converting diesels to use vegetable fuels, and a lot is written (some incorrect) about using these. In a nutshell, we can grow our own liquid fuels. Combined with serious (though fairly easy) conservation, and perhaps wind and/or solar setups, we can be energy independent.

GEET

GEET, or Global Environmental Energy Technology, the 'fuel reactor' or 'plasma generator' of U.S. inventor Paul Pantone, is really exciting. Pantone's simple reactor converts liquid fuels to plasma (the fourth physical state, above gas) on the way into diesel and 4-stroke engines. Mostly water can get used as a fuel, and the water molecule H2O (for example), gets seperated into free floating hydrogen and oxygen atoms, or plasma. Combustion in engine heads is extremely clean (95%), fuel consumption is usually cut by 2/3, and power goes up. In some setups, 100% of the exhaust gasses can get rerouted to the reactor and back into the engine. Too good to be true? In my own experiments, using Pantone's free plans, I was able to use Aunt Jemima syrup, Rooibos tea, waste engine oil and gasoline to run a small 4-stroke engine. No carbon showed up on a white cloth placed over the exhaust.

Batteries

High-tech batteries are not needed in most marine setups. Lead/acid batteries are now completely recyclable and safe. Under most conditions AGM (Absorbed Glass Matt) and Gel batteries vent insignificant amounts of hydrogen, so explosions are not a problem. Properly sized and used batteries can easily have a 10 year lifespan.

Electric Drive Motors

These seem new, but electric drive motors have been in use in the marine industry for over a century. Large ships and train locomotives use diesel/electric setups. Smaller, more efficient and powerful motors are coming on the market all the time.
